We are pleased to announce the formation of the Florida Orthopaedic Risk Purchasing Group; a program designed to greatly reduce our cost for malpractice insurance. Following the 2008 FOS Annual Meeting we are already well over one hundred doctors and the excitement continues to build. We fully expect that over two hundred doctors will be in the group by the middle of July.

The timing is perfect for the development of this group. Insurers are enjoying record profits because the frequency of claims is at a historical low and the rates have not fallen in the same proportion. In the long term, a risk purchasing group with hundreds of orthopaedic surgeons purchasing together will shelter you from the next liability insurance crisis. The RPG will enhance our ability to assess and manage liability exposure in Florida.

Once the initial group has been formed we will request proposals from all the major insurers writing policies in Florida. The RPG will evaluate all proposals and select a final recommendation by mid-September. We fully expect the final policy offered to members of the RPG to be unmatched in the marketplace. Once the RPG has evaluated all proposals and made a recommendation, all members of the RPG will receive formal individual proposals. The final decision to sign the policy will be yours.

We will not be assuming any additional risk or financial obligation by purchasing together. We are doing this simply to create buying power.
