This Month's Topic:
X-rays and "minimum views"

Q: I have a question regarding an x-ray code for ISKD patients. Currently we are taking 3 views of the tibia/fibula on the ISKD patient, but the current CPT code 73590 is for only 2 views. Is there a better code to use so we area ble to bill for 3 views?

A: CPT code 73590, Radiologic examination; tibia and fibula, two views is the only code for the tibia/fibula. You may consider adding a modifier 22, though the chances of increased reimbursement will be challenging. CPT code 73592, describes 3 views of the lower extremity of an infant, but implies the entire lower extremity and refers to an infant.
